Sue O’Kieffe and “Sacred Circle Mandalas”

Sue O’Kieffe is an artist living on the North Coast of California and has been creating mandalas since 1995. (If you are unfamiliar with mandalas, here is a Wikipedia article that will give you an introduction to mandalas.) Sue’s website, Sacred Circle Mandalas, is her blogsite that gives you a glimpse into the life and work of this amazing artist.

I have always been fascinated by mandalas and have created several at various points in my life. When I was studying for my Masters of Earth Literacy at St. Mary-of-the-Woods College, we spent one afternoon just studying and creating mandalas and they have a true spiritual influence. Sue combines this with nature and digital photography (two more favorites of mine) for an incredible triple affect of arty goodness.

If you are wondering how she goes about creating her masterpieces, here is a recent article where she gives a tutorial on pattern-making that helps explain the process. Like any true art, technique is only one piece of the whole puzzle.

Sue has another website here where you can also see her portfolio, greeting cards, and more. Please check out her sites and let her know what you think of her work.

Wow, Chris. Thanks for the honor of the profile. The gratitude is felt deeply.
I grew up in the ‘burbs of Minneapolis, btw. The beauty of Minnesota is powerful. So is the cold. Following our hearts and finding our own lives is good stuff. Ive always wanted to see New Mexico. Maybe someday that will happen.
Many blessings.

@Heather: You are very welcome.

@Sue: Thank YOU for sharing everything that you do. As for Minnesota… a friend emailed me yesterday saying it was 22 below at their house. That made it 75 degrees warmer where I live! There is always an open invite for you and anyone who reads this blog to come visit us down here in Sun City.

I too am a fan of Sue’s work, and very happy to see her featured here. I often feel, while looking at her creations, that I can go into them, that they are made of energy and light. I see the healing and intention in these gorgeous creations.

Great feature, Chris!

@ Chris: If you worry about falling in, don’t worry. Each mandala comes with its own special safety net — the comforting hands of Spirit…

@Diane: Thank you encouraging words.

@Sue: I LIKE! I don’t think I would mind falling in, though, it feels like it would be very comforting and peaceful.

It’s wonderful to see Sue get the recognition she deserves. Not only are her mandalas are incredibly wonderous and inspiring, her poignant expression in words are deeply touching as well. I’m certainly a huge fan of this sister Minnesotan! BTW - today the windchill is 30 - 35 below!
